Types of Status on SASSA Disability Grant:

Here are the three types of statuses or remarks you’ll receive on your disability grant application:

1. Pending

The 'Pending' status means your disability grant application is still under review. SASSA verifies your information and documents to confirm eligibility. It takes up to 90 days (or three months) for this status to change, so applicants need to wait for an update.

2. Approved

The ‘Approved Status’ means your application was accepted by SASSA. You will receive your relief payment on the same date you applied, in the following month.

3. Declined

4. Cancelled

How Much Is SASSA Disability Grant in 2025?

SASSA pays the disability grant to thousands of South Africans. In the previous year, the relief amount was R2,080. However, the Finance Minister announced changes to the grant amounts in his Budget Speech.

According to the Budget Speech, the SASSA disability grant was increased to R2,180 as of April 1, 2024. Later on, the amount was increased by R10, bringing the total to R2,190.

How to Withdraw Your Approved SASSA Disability Grant?

This is how you can withdraw your disability grant amount: 

1. Via Cash Send Service

Applicants using the Cash Send service can collect their relief by bringing their ID and registered phone number to any of these retailers:

  3. Pick n Pay

  4. Boxer stores

  5. Usave

  6. Selected OK Foods Supermarkets.

2. Via Smart Card

Those with a SASSA smart card can withdraw their disability grant payments in one of these ways:

Eligibility Criteria for SASSA Disability Grant

Applicants with a mental or physical disability can apply for this relief if they meet this eligibility criteria:

  • You must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee.

  • Living in the borders of South Africa.

  • Aged 18 to 59 years.

  • Hold a 13-digit ID card.

  • Not living in a state care institution (i.e., Care Home, Rehabilitation Centre).

  • Earn less than R86,280 per year if single or R172,560 if married or unemployed for over six months due to disability.

  • Must not be receiving other social grants.

  • Have assets worth less than R1,227,600 (single) or R2,455,200 (married).

  • Undergo a medical exam by a government-appointed doctor.

  • Provide any previous medical records and reports made during the submission of your disability grant application to SASSA.

If you’re under 18, then an alternative identity verification process will be required.
