How to Cancel SRD Application

There are four methods to cancel your SRD / SASSA application. Here’s the detail of each one: 

1. Grant Cancellation Via Website

The easiest way to is by requesting it through the Govt website. This is how you can do it:

  1. Go to the official SRD website.
  2. Scroll down to the South African ID Holders tab and select ‘Click Here to Proceed’.
  3. Navigate to the Cancel My Application section and tap on ‘Click Here to Cancel Online’.
  4. Enter your South African ID number and Phone Number, then click on ‘Send Pin’
  5. Type the 16-Digit OTP received on your phone number and tap on ‘Verify Pin’.
  6. Click on the ‘Cancel My Grant’ option from the next web page.
  7. Finally, press ‘Yes’ when asked if you’re sure about the suspension of the grant.

After this process, the applicant will receive an SMS mentioning that their grant termination process has begun. Anyway, remember to enter the phone number on the website that you used when applying for the relief. 

2. Grant Cancellation Via WhatsApp Number

Another convenient method for grant suspension is to contact the SASSA team via their WhatsApp line. Here’s the complete process:

  1. Save the SASSA WhatsApp Number: 082 046 8553.
  2. Type ‘Cancel SASSA R350 grant’ and send it in the chat box.
  3. Lastly, give your South African ID card number and related Phone Number details.

After confirming your cancellation request, the team will begin the process. If you have been given an R370 grant, then you can send them a message with ‘Cancel SASSA R370 grant’ instead. Refuges and Permit Holders will be asked to provide their Valid File Number and Passport details. 

3. Grant Cancellation Via Phone Number

Those who don’t have internet access can also apply to cancel SRD application through their cell phone number. Here’s a quick rundown of that:

  1. Call the SASSA helpline at 0800 601 011.
  2. Choose the option to speak with a SASSA representative on your phone.
  3. Request the CRO to cancel your SRD grant.
  4. Give your 16-digit South African ID Card number and any other required information to complete the process.

If you’re an Asylum Seeker, you’ll be asked about your valid File Number for cancellation. Special Permit Holders will need to give their Passport information. Remember to ring the call centre with the same phone number that you submitted when applying for the grant; otherwise, you’ll need to provide that information as well. 

4. Grant Cancellation Via Email 

Lastly, recipients can also apply to end their SRD grant through their email address. Follow these steps to do that:

  1. Open your Gmail Account.
  2. Write your grant cancellation email with your ID card and Phone number information.
  3. Send the email to this address ‘[email protected]">’

After the mail, the SASSA team will start working on your application termination. 

How Much Time It Take to Cancel SASSA Grant?

Once the applicant requests the suspension of their Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant through the website, WhatsApp, phone, or email, it will take a maximum of 7 working days to process the cancellation. After this period, you will no longer be the beneficiary of the SASSA relief for your respective R350 or R370 grant amount.

  4. Enter your South African ID number and phone number, then click on ‘Submit.’

How to Restore Cancelled SASSA Application?

  2. Head to the South African ID Holders tab and select ‘Click Here to Proceed’.
  3. Choose the ‘Click Here to Reinstate Online’ option under the Reinstate My Cancelled Application section. 
  4. Enter your South African ID number and Phone Number, then click on ‘Send Pin.’
  5. Type the 16-digit OTP received and tap on ‘Verify Pin’.
  6. Tap on ‘Agree to Terms & Conditions’. 
  7. Click on the ‘Reinstate My Grant’ option. 
  8. Lastly, press ‘Yes’ when asked if you’re sure about the reinstatement of the grant.

This will reactivate the suspended grant.
